Subcontractor Purchase Orders

Overview

For routing operations performed by an outside vendor — such as an outsourced processing or finishing step — Dynapro Manufacturing can create the subcontractor purchase order directly from a production order, instead of building it manually in the requisition worksheet. Purchasing staff and production planners use this.

Setting Up a Subcontractor

On the Vendor Card, turn on Subcontractor Only for vendors that should only be used for subcontracted routing operations. With this on, the vendor cannot be selected on an ordinary purchase line — attempting to do so is blocked with an error — except for lines the app creates automatically through this feature.

Assign the subcontractor vendor to the relevant Work Center or Machine Center as usual, so the app can find which operations are outsourced.

Creating a Subcontractor Purchase Order

For One Production Order

  1. Open the Released Production Order.
  2. Choose Subcontractor Purchase order for this production order.
  3. The app finds routing operations at subcontractor work centers, calculates the required quantities, and creates (and can print) a purchase order for the subcontractor vendor.

For Several Production Orders

  1. From the Released Production Orders list, select or filter the orders you want to process.
  2. Choose Subcontractor Purchase order for several production orders.
  3. Select the Work Center to process. The app calculates required quantities across all matching orders and creates the purchase order(s).

How It Works

Behind the scenes, the app calculates the outsourced quantities, inserts requisition worksheet lines, and carries out the action message to generate the purchase order — the same standard requisition-worksheet mechanism used elsewhere in Business Central, automated so you don't have to build it by hand.
