DHL Electronic Invoicing & Customs¶
Overview¶
For DHL international shipments, customs authorities require a commercial invoice and a goods declaration. The Cargonizer Connector handles this through DHL Electronic Invoicing (e-invoicing). It calculates the customs value from the sales order and submits the required declaration fields with the consignment.
When Is DHL E-Invoicing Required?¶
DHL Electronic Invoicing is required for cross-border shipments sent via DHL where the destination is outside the EEA (European Economic Area), or where DHL specifically requires e-invoice data for your agreement. Contact DHL or your Cargonizer account manager if you are unsure.
How the Customs Value Is Calculated¶
The customs value is calculated automatically as:
- Goods Value is taken from the total value of the linked sales order lines.
- Freight Cost is taken from the estimated or actual transport price on the sales order.
Business Central keeps the customs value in sync with the sales order. If you change quantities, prices, or the freight charge on the sales order after creating the transport order, Business Central recalculates the customs value.
DHL Electronic Invoice Details¶
Open the DHL Electronic Invoice page from the transport order to review and complete the e-invoice data:
| Field | Description |
|---|---|
| Customs Value | Calculated total customs value (auto-populated) |
| Currency Code | Currency of the customs value |
| Incoterms | Delivery terms (e.g., DDP, DAP, EXW) set via the Shipment Method on the order |
| EEA Declaration | Toggle — enable for shipments within the EEA requiring a simplified declaration |
| EEA Authorisation No. | Your EEA authorisation reference number |
| EEA Authorisation Date | Date of authorisation |
Goods Declaration Document¶
After the transport order is dispatched, a Goods Declaration document is available for download from the transport order card. Use the Download Goods Declaration action.
This document can accompany the shipment or be provided to customs as required.
EEA Declarations¶
For shipments within the EEA that still require a declaration (e.g., goods subject to export controls), enable the EEA Declaration toggle and provide your authorisation number and date. These fields are included in the e-invoice XML sent to DHL via Cargonizer.
Prerequisites¶
- The DHL Electronic Invoice service must be available for your selected DHL product in Cargonizer.
- Sales order lines must have values populated for accurate customs value calculation.
- The Shipment Method on the order must be mapped to an Incoterms Code for the correct terms to be included.
