Sales Quote Support

Overview

You can create transport orders from Sales Quotes in Business Central. This allows logistics planning to start before an order is confirmed. Business Central transfers and unblocks the transport order when the quote converts to a sales order.

Behaviour on a Sales Quote

  • When automatic creation is enabled and a sales quote is shipped, Business Central creates a transport order with Source Document Type = Sales Quote.
  • The transport order is blocked from dispatch while the source document is a quote.
  • This prevents labels and consignments from being registered for shipments that may not be confirmed.

Quote-to-Order Conversion

When a sales quote is converted to a sales order in Business Central (using the Make Order action):

  1. The transport order's Source Document Type is updated from Sales Quote to Sales Order.
  2. The Source Document No. is updated to the new sales order number.
  3. The Blocked flag is removed — the transport order can now be dispatched.

This transfer happens automatically via the event subscriber in the Consignment Management app.

Deleted Quotes

If a sales quote is deleted without being converted to an order, Business Central deletes all linked transport orders. This keeps the Transport Orders list clean and avoids orphaned records.

Auto-Send on a Quote

A transport order linked to a quote is not dispatched automatically, even if automatic sending is enabled. Dispatch is blocked until the quote converts to an order. After conversion, dispatch the transport order manually, or enable auto-send so Business Central sends it automatically when you ship the resulting sales order.

Use Case: Freight Pre-Planning

Use this workflow to configure freight costs on a sales quote for pricing purposes:

  1. Create the quote with the expected goods.
  2. Run Get Freight Price Estimate on the transport order to obtain a carrier price.
  3. Add the freight charge to the quote as a sales line (auto-add or manual).
  4. When the customer confirms, convert the quote to an order — the transport order follows automatically.
  5. Post the shipment — the transport order is dispatched and the label is printed.
