Return Shipments

Overview

The Cargonizer Connector generates return labels automatically after you dispatch an outbound shipment. It can also email the return label to the customer. No manual steps are required from the shipping team.

How Return Shipments Work

When you send a transport order to Cargonizer and Automatically Create Return Transport Order is enabled, Business Central:

  1. Creates a new Return Transport Order linked to the same source document.
  2. Uses the configured Default Return Carrier and Default Return Product from setup.
  3. Sends the return transport order to Cargonizer to obtain a return consignment ID and return label.
  4. Optionally prints or emails the return label.

Configuring Default Return Carrier

  1. Open Consignment Management Setup.
  2. Set the Default Return Transport Agreement (carrier for return shipments).
  3. Set the Default Return Product (service level for return shipments).

These are applied to all automatically generated return transport orders. You can override them per transport order if needed.

Automatic Return Label Printing

Enable Automatically Print Return Labels in Consignment Management Setup. The return label will be printed to the assigned printer immediately after the return transport order is sent. Printer resolution follows the same priority order as outbound labels (user → location → product). See Label Printing.

Emailing Return Labels to Customers

Enable Email Return Label to Customer in setup. Business Central emails the return label to the customer after it dispatches the return transport order. The customer email comes from the source sales order or customer record.

This is useful for e-commerce and mail-order businesses where customers handle their own returns.

Manual Return Shipment

To create a return transport order manually:

  1. Open the original transport order.
  2. Use the Create Return Transport Order action.
  3. Select the carrier and product for the return.
  4. Send and print the return label as needed.

Consolidated Returns

Return transport orders can be consolidated in the same way as outbound shipments — multiple return shipments can be merged into a single return consignment. See Consolidated Consignments.

Notes

  • A return transport order does not block the outbound order. Both records link to the same source document.
  • Business Central stores return consignment IDs and tracking URLs on the return transport order. These are separate from the outbound transport order.
  • If no default return carrier is configured, automatic return creation shows a setup error. Configure the default or create return transport orders manually.
