Freight Pricing & Markup

Overview

The Cargonizer Connector requests a live freight price estimate from Cargonizer before you dispatch a shipment. A configurable markup (percentage or fixed amount) is applied on top of the net carrier price. Business Central can add the customer freight charge automatically as a sales order line. No extra steps are required for invoicing.

For carriers not covered by Cargonizer's pricing API, install the optional Freight Price Calculator add-on. It supports zone/weight-based price tables imported from Excel.

Requesting a Price Estimate

  1. Open the transport order.
  2. Use the Get Freight Price Estimate action.
  3. Business Central sends the consignment details (weight, dimensions, carrier, product) to Cargonizer's estimate endpoint.
  4. The following fields are populated on the transport order:
Field Description
Net Transport Price Carrier's price to you (before markup)
Gross Transport Price Net price plus any markup
Customer Transport Price The price to charge the customer

Configuring Markup

Open Consignment Management Setup and configure the markup rules:

Setting Description
Transport Profit Type Fixed Amount, Percentage, or Gross Price
Transport Profit Value The fixed amount or percentage (e.g., 15 for 15%) to add

The markup is applied to the net carrier price to produce the Customer's Price. The Customer's Price can be overridden per transport order.

Auto-Add Freight Charge to Sales Order

Enable Auto-Add Freight to Sales Order in setup. Business Central adds the customer freight charge as a sales order line after it gets a price estimate.

Setup Required

Setting Description
Freight Charge Item / G/L Account The item number or G/L account to use for the freight charge line
Freight Line Description Default description for the sales line (optional)

When Business Central retrieves the estimate, it inserts a line on the linked sales order. The line uses the configured item or account and the Customer Transport Price as the unit price. Business Central updates the line if a freight line already exists.

Freight Price Calculator Add-On

The Freight Price Calculator is an optional app for carriers whose pricing is not available through Cargonizer's estimate endpoint.

How It Works

  1. Import a zone-based price table from Excel using the Import transport prices from Excel action on the Cargonizer Setup page.
  2. The table maps shipping agent, country, postal/zone code, transport type, and weight bracket to a freight price.
  3. When a transport order uses a carrier whose Shipping Agent matches the configured price-table agent, the price estimate is calculated locally from the matching zone/weight record instead of calling Cargonizer. A domestic or international energy surcharge is then applied.

Requirements

  • The Freight Price Calculator app must be installed separately.
  • Price tables must be kept up to date when the carrier revises its rates.
